Blogger John Hoff AKA Johnny Northside went on a rampage against this blogger with the intention of ruining my professional reputation while smearing me personally at the same time. He published a three part series on his blog that started in September of 2012 and continued into November. Just a few short years ago Hoff sent me an email that more or less said, "Back off of me or I will be forced to First Amendment Retaliate and ruin your career." Readers of this blog know that I did not back down to his threat. It took Hoff a few years but, he did finally carry out his threat and the previous post on this Blog documented proof that his attack has yet to stop.

My time has finally allowed me to address some of the lies and partial truths he published in his 3-part attack against me. This is Part I of my series of setting the record straight.
That reminds me of a joke I made up about John Hoff.

I am REALLY excited to be able to write this series of reviews of the book, Dumpster Diving- The Advanced Course. The book was written by John Hoff (he used his "pen" name Hoffman rather than his own name) who is also a Minneapolis "activist" who is no stranger to controversy. For those not familiar with his current antics, you can read about the lawsuit he recently appealed Click here for StarTribune after a jury determined in March 2011, that he used intimidation & threats of a negative publicity campaign with his blog, The Adventures of Johnny Northside to get one of his enemies fired. The jury awarded the Plaintiff $60,000 in damages but, what these reviews of what he wrote in this book will show is that he is nothing but a world class cyberbully continues to clutch onto the First Amendment as his justification for what he says. As usual I will show the facts and proof of what I write about Hoff and let the readers judge for themselves.

I bought (yes, bought) a copy of his book and had it with me when I was in Minneapolis in the spring of 2009. I met John for lunch after he extended the invitation and I asked him to sign my copy of his book. The picture below is what John wrote on the inside cover.

John calls me (Jim Watkins) "the Anti-Johnny" here. This is where the nick name came from.

The John Hoff who is currently claiming to be a neighborhood activist intent on turning his north Minneapolis neighborhood into an "urban utopia" does his best to convince the public and the media as well that he represents all that is good, stands up against criminals and sex offenders and constantly makes it known that he has a close, personal relationship with the Minneapolis Police, local media and many local politicians, including city councilman Don Samuels. In other words, Hoff knows who he needs to manipulate and in a way, hide behind as he continues hius quest for fame and headlines. However, everything he does is all part of a well thought out, calculated plan and these reviews will include quotes from John that detail what he has done and will do again to anyone who he feels might stand in his path to urban utopia.

The title of chapter 2 in his book is called, "The Master Key To Successful Diving."
The chapter details the events leading up to and after he stumbled upon a "master key" to the padlocks that locked the majority of the trash dumpsters in Seattle, Washington after he moved there in 1994. His admission of how he could use that key against anyone he pleased, is enough to chill just about anyone's blood. Here are some segments from that chapter.

After finding the key, Hoff went to show it to a friend whom he called, "Bicycle Bill" and told Bill that they should make copies of it and give one to "everybody." His friend then said,

"They could come down on us hard. This is criminal shit. You are actually opening a lock with a key that is not yours."
This is what Hoff then wrote... "Yeah, Yeah" I muttered, waving him off. I just wanted to figure out how many corporations I could fuck in the shortest span of time possible. I wanted to unleashall the power of the key at once.

A few paragraphs later, he said...

I agree. I have to know exactly how much chaos this thing can unleash before I unleash it. So I can unleash it in he best way possible. This key might very well open up the entire city of Seattle.

Hoff then explains how people reading his book can go about getting a master dumpster key of their own.  Rather than taking the added time to type the next few quotes, I just took pictures of the actual page from the book. Forgive the yellow highlighter marks but, I had to remember somehow.

But Hoff wouldn't do that himself... Unless

A word of warning to anyone or any company in Minneapolis: If you hire John Hoff, make sure you have a video camera recording his every move and that he does not have access to any sort of sensitive materials. Wait, he would steal a paper clip and call it liberating it so, maybe have him escorted at all times. Or wait, you could simply NOT HIRE HIM!

He continues on with his self promoting and has a very arrogant attitude about the effect his first book had with the FBI and take note what the last part says!

Thats right, if you don't do as he says... He will merely find dirt on you and threaten you

Let me set the context of this quote. John said he...
 had seized "Controlled narcotics keys." from a drug-impared nurse then threatened (this must be where John learned how to do this) in her manipulative substance abuser way - to frame me for the theft of Avitan. With Satan speaking through her mouth, trying to get to the root of my innermost fears and doubts, she said... 

"John, everybody knows how street smart you are. How you find stuff in people's trash and sell it for money. What if I confessed I was stealing Ativan and you were selling it? But that you are street smart that you sell drugs without using drugs, which is why you never get caught." 

(I swear that sounds JUST like what he does to others)

The bullying, self centered way that John Hoff replied is very common to people who challenge him on his blog and attitudes like this is exactly why he was sued and LOST and now has a $60,000 judgement against him (here's hoping the judges uphold the conviction). Pay attention to what he is actually saying. 

Now I can't say for certain that John really "meant" what he said in the last quote but, based off of things he has said on his blog and others as a comparison, I think he definitely believes it.

Comments suggest Johnny Northside aiming for Anti Johnny

 Death threat? Come on, you can't be serious?
Since this blog came online in 2008, it has been a constant thorn in Johnny Northside's side. He has made several requests and even a few demands that it be taken off  the Internet. This post is not about how the first amendment applies to John Hoff but, does not apply to anyone who has factual, public information about him and puts it on the net for anyone to see without having to go searching all over.

This post is more serious. This morning I opened my email and saw there was a comment awaiting moderation to be published. The following is what an anonymous commenter (believed to be John Hoff or one of his close north Minneapolis friends) submitted to this blog on September 28, 2011:

I will break down the comment for the readers to understand...

1) They ask why everyone (who submits comments) posts as anonymous? My answer? I have no idea why people post comments the way they do. I have no control over other people.
2) They suggest that I (Anti-Johnny/Jim Watkins) write and submit my own comments to give the impression that this blog has active non-Anti-JNS commenters. All the comments that I have added have all been submitted with my Anti-Johnny Blogger account. Any comment that is submitted by me (even if I was to post as anonymous) are immediately published as Blogger does not require a blog owner to approve their own comments. All other comments are held until I approve them BUT... Blogger sends me an email to let me know I have comments waiting to be approved and a copy of the comments are included in the email. My point is, I got an email notifying me of the death threat comments above... Meaning, someone other than me submitted them. My guess is Johnny Northside or one of his close friends, possibly Megan Goodmundson. After all, Megan does have a prior arrest for assault.
3) Finally the message warns me that they will see me in Coppell (a Dallas suburb) in the "cross hairs." They are claiming that I live in Coppell, Texas and that I should expect to "see" them in their cross hairs which, references the sight that is seen in the scope and mounted onto a rifle. In other words, they have threatened to travel to Coppell and hunt me down with a rifle (I assume with the intention of shooting at me in another attempt to make me stop posting information about John Hoff).

I have stated many times on this blog as well as others that John Hoff and the people he calls his friends are dangerous people and the comments submitted on September 28th, is further proof of that (assuming no one else would want to hunt me down without cause).

Johnny Northside Makes Good On Threat...Ends Friendship of 30+ Years

The title may be confusing to some people who are new to this blog. Here is a brief summary of the MisAdventures of Johnny Northside that should help readers understand the meaning of this blog post.

John Hoff aka John Hoffman (pen name used to author, "The Art & Science of Dumpster Diving") aka John Willard Hoff aka Johnny Northside has been engaged in a battle that began in 2007 against the author of this blog, Jim Watkins aka the "Anti-Johnny" (the nick-name was given to me by John Hoff himself).

The battle between us all started when John manipulated the publicity of my best friend, Tom Balko who (at the time) was being slaughtered by the media after the Minneapolis City Council decided that he, his partner Jon Helgason and their company, TJ Waconia were responsible for the increased crime and real estate foreclosure crisis in North Minneapolis.
The city filed a law suit against them that was front page news when it was announced at a press conference by Minneapolis Mayor R.T. Rybak. TJ Waconia was dropped from the law suit after SunTrust Mortgage counter sued after the city was awarded the right to manage the TJ Waconia Houses. The reason SunTrust countered was because, they actually owned the houses and the city never bothered to research who owned them in their rush to cash in on the headlines while TJ Waconia was still news

John Hoff got the name Johnny Northside and the blog started partially by riding the TJ Waconia same coat tails as the city did and ever since it has been a public battle between John Hoff and myself. I started and maintain the Misadventures of Johnny Northside because, it was clear to me way back that John operated by his own set of rules and double standards. He has made several threats against me that have been well documented on this blog, the Mplsmirror and on the Adventures of Jordan Hawkman.

Which brings us to the topic of this post.

Last year, John sent me several text messages warning me that if I didn't back off of my efforts of reporting all of his current and past misdeeds, threats, attempts to manipulate others (and the list goes on), that he would go after the one thing he knew I cared about... My friend. Part of the reason I have kept up with Johns "adventures" is because of the fact that he has made threats to me before and I have the same policy as the United States does against terrorism... I will not negotiate with John Hoff and I will not stand down to his blackmail attempts.

The text message John sent said that I had "an incredible opportunity to BACK THE HELL OFF" or he would go after Tom and Jon by trying to make their lives as miserable as possible. He promised to write letters to the prison they are located at, the authorities at the prison itself as well as the parole board. He ended the threat by stating, "By the time I am done with them, the entire Balko family will HATE YOU... Now BACK OFF, JIM!"

I didn't back off. John carried out his threat by writing letters to Tom and Jon as well as to the prison, if not more.

I am writing this post to let people know that John Hoff has made good on his threat. He has accomplished his goal. John has effectively driven a wedge between me and my life-long best friend, Tom. I hereby congratulate John Hoff! John can add ending a 30+ year friendship between two people to his list of accomplishments and in doing so, has lost the one effective "weapon" that he has used against me since this all began.

Last fall, I got a call from one of Tom's relatives and they told me that John had been sending letters to both Tom and Jon as well as the prison. They told me that I will not be hearing from Tom in the future and they thanked me for the support I gave him through the entire ordeal.
I have not been contacted by Tom since.

The worst thing John has been able to slander me with in his attempts to discredit and humiliate me in public has been by telling everyone that I am the "self proclaimed best friend of TJ Waconia fraudster, Tom Balko." (the quote is from John that he has used over and over again.)
That's all, though.

John went after my former friend because, he has not been able to find anything about me that he could use to tarnish or ruin me with by blogging about it. Class act, huh?

I made a promise to John that I would not stop my efforts of notifying the public and people John associates with about his shady, two-faced and bullying ways. Now that John has caused my friendship with Tom Balko to end... John has NOTHING he can threaten me with and I will NOT back down from the self proclaimed "800 pound Gorilla" that John has called himself.

Anti-JNS Exclusive! Up Close & Personal With Johnny Northside's House!

I know the "Exclusive" in the title is really lame but, the point of this blog is to get the inside scoop on all the less-than-legal antics of Johnny Northside aka John Hoffman aka John Willard Hoff who lives at 2226 Bryant Ave. N. in Minneapolis.
A resident of NoMi who is not a fan of Johnny Northside was kind enough to email a few close-up pictures of John's house. I think it is great that people are starting to pay close attention to what he is up to or in some cases, NOT up to. Like... Not fixing his house as he agreed to do when he signed his Truth In Housing when he bought his house. NEWS FLASH!!! John has STILL not paid his 2008 OR 2009 property taxes. Isn't that typical John though? He will pound his chest on his blog and complain about "Tax Payers" in NoMi who have rights against L3SO's and all sorts of other crap he wants to attack and here the ENTIRE TIME, John has NOT PAID his own property taxes. That includes the County, the City of Minneapolis, Minneapolis schools taxes, etc..

He is a real class act. Too bad he can't afford to have simple luxuries like owning a lawn mower so, he doesn't have to ride on the bumper of his "Super-Citizen", mortgage fraudster and fellow Truth in Housing offender of a girlfriend, Megan Goodmundson's car while he literally drags her lawn mower over to his own house to cut his wild weed of a lawn.

Enjoy the nice pictures of his house and I am really happy to welcome all the "Anti-Johnny" northsiders to our growing group of members. Don Samuels, Jeff Skrenes aka Hawthorne Hawkman, Megan and other faithful JNS groupies are losing support quickly now that the MisAdventures of Johnny Northside blog has increased the amount of information about his group that the public doesn't like to hear about (taxes, crappy house, restraining order, etc.).

Johnny Northside himself, has seen and even read this blog as he posted a thread on his blog about...This blog. Although he claims he will not return to this site again. He pointed out that this blog is pretty much a joke (which it mostly is because, it is about him) because, there has been an inactivity period on here as far as number of posts. What I think is funny about that is the fact that he had a long stretch from July 7th to July 19th. Hypocite.

Well, I can promise anyone reading this blog that there will never be nearly as many posts as Johnny has on his site. Why? For one, I don't care to take that much time to write about someone else. Two, When I think there is something of interest to others or something Johnny has done or said that needs to be relayed to the public... Then I will post it.
Actually, I am glad that he has vowed to not return to this blog. If he did, he would HAVE to comment because he has shown in the past that he can't simply shut his mouth and let something go. So, it's less for me to have to mess with.

The good thing that he has contributed to this blog is the name I will soon be using as my identity on this blog... "Anti-Johnny." I am actually not entirely anti-Johnny. I am only here to let those that want to be heard, be heard as well as to convey info that he leaves out on his site.

Lastly (for now), he went off on me (Anti-Johnny) saying that no one had commented on this blog yet.
Well to correct him on that, there has been one comment and a second comment was just added before I wrote this thread.
Also, I read those other blogs he commented about from about the time he was just getting his started. It's pretty funny because, he posted on those blogs several times to "Read my blog" "Read my blog" and added things like "(waving arms around and jumping up and down)" to draw a reader to his new blog.

See what I mean? He is a classic example of "Do as I say... Not, as I do"
